Dave Bellerby
Only ever Supermodified Driver to carry number ’4′ for a season overall in the MSA Championship
First driver of a two-wheel drive car to win a British championship event in 20 years.
Dave started his racing career in the nineties competing regularly in Stock-car racing for fun.
Always having a passion for all Motorsport and keeping a beady eye on the legendary Michael Schumacher, Dave tried his hand in Rallycross in 1999 with a Peugeot 205 where he won the Colway Tyres Championship, and again in 2000.
He acquired the ex-Barry McGuigan Vauxhall Nova ‘challenge car’ in 2001 which claimed his first British title in 2004 following an horrific accident at Lydden during the first round that left Dave with a crushed arm and leg requiring major surgery to repair. He returned for round three just ten weeks later and claimed outright victory at each subsequent round. The car was sold to Irishman, Michael Coyne who has since gone on to win Irish Supermodified Championships and the overall Irish Rallycross Championship in 2008.
2005 Saw Dave unleash the Harry Hockly built Peugeot 206 RWD Turbo which had some teething problems and swayed Dave from victory until the 4th round at Anglesey in July of that year.
In 2006/7 Dave piloted the Procters Motorsport Lotus Exige and claimed his second and third Championships back to back. The Lotus was sold to George Tracey Jr who has enjoyed various wins since.
In 2008 Dave unveiled his self-built Lotus Exige S2 and enjoyed only one victory in the two-wheel drive class and went on to finish 5th in the Supermodified category after staggering his appearances due to work commitments and funding. His last event in this car was at the Superprix, Croft where he claimed the essential Supernational Champion prize – The car was then sold to John Smith who has contended in various rounds of the MSA BRC during 2009.
2009 Dave took a sabbatical, partly due to work commitments, partly due to plans to compete in the new Swift Sport Rallycross Championship and also preparation for his 13 year old daughter, Paige, who will be following Dad’s footsteps and contesting the MSA British Rallycross Championship in 2010, piloting the ex-Joe Cunningham Mini in the Junior Rallycross category.
Dave continues to navigate for Kevin Procter as required in the Subaru Impreza S7, they finished 4th overall at the 2009 Barbados Rally Carnival.
2010 Dave unleashes his self-built Suzuki Swift Sport Rallycross car at Lydden Hill 4th April and commits to the entire 2010 British Rallycross Championship which he vowed to win and win he did! The Suzuki Swift is built to very strict technical regulations and weight controls, engines cannot be modified and ECU’s are swapped between competitors to ensure no wrong-doing occurs. The Swift Sport Rallycross Championship also appeared as a guest category at the 2010 GB ERC at Lydden Hill on May 30/31. – Dave continues to support Daughter Paige who also won the 2010 BTRDA Junior Rallycross Championship
2011 Dave returns with a newly built Swift after selling his championship winning car to Dale Cousins. The first outing for Dave was at the Autsport International Show in January where Dave appeared as a guest driver with other Swift Sport Rallycross competitors. The new ‘not quite finished’ car was built in time for round one at Lydden in March where he managed 2nd place. The next outing was again as a guest appearence at the British round of the ERC providing ‘demonstration’ races with fellow Swift competitors.
Round 2 of the BRC at Blyton (Lincs) and Dave secures another 2nd place, with a bonus point for FTD – Daves winning form returned for round 3 at Mondello Park in June where he once again dominated the class – Next stop Maasmechlen (Belgium), July 10th.
