Joe Cunningham
Joe started his Motorsport career in 2005 aged just 13; he competed in a Skoda Rally car with co-pilot Mick Gilby. His debut proved unsuccessful after wrapping the car round a tree on one of the Welsh stages.
2006 saw Joe debut in the MSA British Rallycross Championship at most rounds during the year and enjoyed his first podium at round four but unfortunately went on to destroy the car at Mondello Park round nine.
He returned in 2007 with the Mini repaired after acquiring a donor car and transferring all of the required parts to let him race again enjoying a podium finish and several 4th/5th places which built his confidence in what was a majorly event free year in comparison to his previous career.
With new found confidence and coming of age, Joe promoted himself to the Stock-Hatch category in the Ex-Tina Scott Peugeot 106 XSI – However, a spectacular ‘Barrell’ roll at round 2, Lydden, ended any championship hopes and completely destroyed the car.
Joe, being Joe, could not give up and he acquired an s2 Peugeot 106 GTI which complied to the new 16v regulations, he transferred what was left of the 106 XSI to the new car and could smell victory at the 2008 Superprix where the car proved very competitive on it debut until a fuel starvation fault dashed his hopes.
2009 witnessed Joe pilot the new 106 on just a couple of occasions due to work commitments, he has proved the car is highly rapid when reliability is on his side……
2010 and Joe has competed in just rounds 7 & 8 of the BTRDA Rallycross Championship – An unfortunate Engine failure has set things back slightly, but he went on to show good pace and record some very fast times.
2011 – Joe is currently concentrating on work commitments with his new role of Transport Co-ordinator at Coach2.com but intends to have his Car race ready for the final round of the British Rallycross Championship at Croft Circuit in November.
