Latest News BATTLE-SCARRED PROCTER IN THE POINTS IN GERMANY FIA European Rallycross Championship – Round 8 – Estering, Germany North Yorkshire driver Kevin Procter overcame a fraught day to score more important points when he contested round eight of the 2010 FIA European Rallycross Championship at Estering in Germany today. Driving the Procters Luxury Coaches-sponsored Ford Focus, the Leeming Bar driver qualified in ninth place following timed practice and followed that up with a battling tenth place in the opening heat held yesterday at the track near Buxtehude to the South West of Hamburg. In today’s second heat, Procter was drawn against a number of top European drivers including multiple Champion Kenneth Hansen and led into the first corner, before deciding to take his ‘joker’ lap early. Rejoining the pack, Kevin clashed with Ludwig Hunsbedt which resulted in him punted into the barriers and out of the race. Needing a good result in the third and final heat, Procter once again made a superb start and although he managed to take victory, his time was good enough only to allow the Kick Energy and www.coach2.com-supported driver into the ‘C’ Final. From fourth place on the grid, Procter gained the lead going into the first corner again but once for, a clash with another driver saw him lose vital places and despite recovering to fourth place at the flag, he could progress no further. As a result, Kevin remains in 11th position in the Division 1 title race, adding to the points he has already scored so far this season in France, Britain, Hungary and Finland, and is hoping for better luck when the penultimate round of the Championship takes place at Slomczyn in Poland on September 11/12th. Kevin Procter: “Estering is one of those tracks which means contact is inevitable and it just wasn’t my day. To lead three races and still come away with only progressing to the ‘C’ Final is frustrating but when you’re up against such quality drivers, it’s always going to be hard. Had luck gone my way a little more, I could have at least made it into the ‘B’ Final and who knows what could have happened but it wasn’t to be and I’m happy to add to my points tally. Hopefully, we can get a good result in Poland next month as I really need to get into the top ten over these final two rounds” |
